Tour Itinerary
Your adventure begins at 12:00 PM with pick-up from your hotel or the airport. During the drive north toward Maros Regency, your guide will introduce you to the history, culture, and geological significance of the Maros–Pangkep Karst region.
At approximately 2:00 PM, you will arrive at Pier 1, where a traditional wooden boat awaits. The journey along the beautiful Pute River is one of the highlights of the tour. As the boat glides through calm waters, towering limestone cliffs, lush tropical vegetation, and quiet fishing villages create unforgettable scenery. The peaceful atmosphere makes this boat ride a favorite among photographers and nature lovers.
After arriving at Kampung Laku, you will explore its remarkable Stone Forest, where millions of years of natural erosion have formed extraordinary limestone formations. Nearby, the Labyrinth Cave showcases narrow passages and fascinating rock formations that reveal the incredible geological history of the region.
Following your exploration, the boat continues toward Pier 2, where you'll visit Bulu Barakka and the Tianang Stone Site. This archaeological site contains ancient prehistoric rock paintings believed to be thousands of years old. These remarkable artworks offer valuable insight into the lives of early humans who once inhabited South Sulawesi and are among Indonesia's most significant archaeological treasures.
The next destination is Diamond Cave, locally known as Gua Kunang-Kunang. A pleasant 2.5-kilometer round-trip walk leads you through beautiful countryside before reaching the cave entrance. Inside, wooden stairways allow visitors to safely admire magnificent stalagmites and limestone formations. Although the cave's name translates as "Firefly Cave," its beauty actually comes from sparkling mineral formations that glitter when illuminated by light, creating an enchanting effect similar to countless tiny lights.
After leaving the cave, another traditional boat carries you toward Berua Village, the cultural heart of Rammang-Rammang. This peaceful village consists of only fourteen traditional wooden houses surrounded by rice fields and dramatic limestone mountains. Most residents continue to earn their living through farming and fishing, preserving a simple lifestyle that has remained largely unchanged for generations.
A leisurely walk of approximately three kilometers takes you through the village, across wooden bridges, and alongside green rice fields. Along the way, you'll stop at the famous King Kong Rock, a massive limestone formation that resembles the face of a giant gorilla when viewed from the right angle. The walk continues to Amarrung Field, an open grassland surrounded by towering karst cliffs that offers one of the best panoramic views in the region. During the late afternoon, the warm sunlight creates spectacular lighting conditions, making it an ideal location for photography.
At approximately 5:00 PM, you'll board the boat one final time for the return journey to Pier 1. Shortly afterward, your private vehicle will take you back to Makassar or Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport, bringing an unforgettable half-day adventure to a close.
